(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame travels west on Day 54 of the torch relay after a route diversion at Six Nations yesterday.
Yesterday highlights include the torch departing Niagara Falls, traveling through 11 towns and being carried by four Olympians. The torch had to change its route prior to reaching Six Nations Indian Reserve due to a threatened Aboriginal protest over a controversial land dispute. The torch was carried directly to the Bingo Hall where the celebration took place and around 15 protesters gathered outside.
Today, the torch relay departs Brantford and continues travel to the towns of Paris, Scotland, Simcoe, Delhi, Courtland, Tillsonburg, Aylmer and St. Thomas where archery Olympian Crispin Duenas and athletics Olympian Doug Consiglio will run with the torch. A welcome celebration is planned at the Canada Southern Railway Station.
The torch proceeds to Oneida of the Thames, Chippewas of the Thames, Musee-Delaware, Rodney, Ridgetown and Blenheim.
The Olympic Torch reaches its final destination point of the day in the city of Chatham where bobsleigh Olympian Chris Lori and field hockey Olympian Elizabeth Czenczek will be torchbearers.
A welcome celebration is planned at the Kinsmen Auditorium and will include an Aboriginal welcome with a Walpole Island prayer and smoke ceremony along with music and dancing.
Tomorrow, the torch makes its way through 12 towns, will be carried by four Olympians and will ride in a tomato harvester in Leamingon, Canada’s Tomato Capital.
