(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame gets closer to the final destination with 10 days to go until the Olympic Games.
Yesterday highlights include the Vancouver Olympic torch relay traveling through 7 towns and riding in a 1908 McLaughlin Buick Model 10 through Fort St. John.
Today, the torch relay departs Bella Bella, an unincorporated community and Indian Reserve located north of Port Hardy and west of Bella Coola.
A welcome celebration is scheduled to begin at 7:45 am. The torch is expected to arrive at 9:00 am. The festivities include a performance by the Bella Bella Community Choir and UBC Singers.
The torch relay continues its journey through the Gwa’Sala-Nakwaxda’xw First Nation. This Nation was originally two distinct First Nations, the Gwa’sala and the ‘Nakwaxda’xw. The Federal Government relocated the two nations to the current reserve in the mid 1960’s.
The 2010 flame reaches its final destination point of the day in the small community of Port Hardy located on the north-eastern coast of Vancouver Island.
Torchbearer Ali Hunt will carry the torch in a Kwakiutl First Nations traditional canoe and pass it to torchbearer Collette Child who will be in a canoe.
A welcome celebration will take place at the Civic Centre and include a performance by the Tsusquana Singers.
Tomorrow, the Olympic Flame travels through 5 towns making its way to the northern Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia.
