(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 torch makes its way through the province of British Columbia on Day 4 of the journey through Canada.
Weekend highlights include unusual modes of transportation for the relay. In Tofino, one torch-bearer became the first to carry the flame while skateboarding. The torch then took a ride on a logging truck and a canoe through Port Alberni to spotlight the community’s industry.
Today, the flame began travel through the town of Qualicum Beach. The flame continues to through Qualicum, Qualicum Bay, Bowser, Fanny Bay, Union Bay, Royston, Cumberland and then to Courtenay where an Aboriginal tribal dance welcome is planned for 10:30 a.m. at Lewis Park.
In Courtenay, the national anthem will be performed by the Comox Valley Francophone Society. The flame is set to arrive at 11:30 a.m. as the cauldron is lit by the final torchbearer.
The torch continues through the cities of K’omoks, Comox, CFB/BFC Comox, Black Creek and We Wai Kum.
The journey of the torch will end today in Campbell River with a more modern hip-hop dance celebration mixed with the infusion of First Nations dancing. The celebration show for this evening has nearly 200 in the cast. The flame is set to arrive at 6 p.m. and a fireworks display will follow.
