(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame approaches Whistler with 8 days to go until the Olympic Games.

Yesterday highlights include the Vancouver Olympic torch relay traveling across Vancouver Island as it made its way through 5 towns, including two First Nation reserves.

Today, the torch relay departs Powell River and heads southeast through the towns of Saltery Bay, Earls Cove, Pender Harbour and Madeira Park.

In Sechelt, athletics Olympian Lynn Kanuka runs with the flame.

A welcome celebration will take place at Sechelt Block 7 Spirit Square and include an Aboriginal welcome from the Sechelt Indian Band followed by singing, guitar playing and fiddlers.

The 2010 flame proceeds through Shishalh, Roberts Creek, Gibsons, Hopkins Landing, Langdale, Lions Bay, Furry Creek, Britannia Beach and Stawamus.

The torch reaches its final destination point of the day in the city of Squamish located on at the north end of Howe Sound on the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia.

A welcome celebration will take place at Brennan Park Recreation Centre and include performances by the Sound of Youth Chorus and Sea to Sky Singers.

Tomorrow, the Olympic Flame travels through 4 towns and will be carried by thirteen Olympians as it enters Whistler Olympic Park.
