The Association of National Olympic Committees and the United States Olympic Committee will host representatives from all 206 NOCs in Washington, D.C., later this month for a week of events highlighted by the XX ANOC General Assembly and the ANOC Awards 2015.
More than 1,000 delegates will experience the unique beauty and history of the nation’s capital during one of the Olympic Movement’s largest gatherings outside of the Olympic Games. Being held in the U.S. for the first time since 1994, the assembly will include NOC delegates, plus the ANOC Executive Council and representatives from International Federations and future Organizing Committees of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming our colleagues from around the world for one of the most important meetings of the Olympic Movement," said USOC Chairman Larry Probst. "We’re grateful to ANOC and President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah for affording us the opportunity to help host the event, as well as to The Foundation for Global Sports Development for providing critical support."
The Foundation for Global Sports Development is providing support to the USOC to host the 2015 event, with additional assistance from BMW and Hilton.
"With two weeks to go, excitement is growing ahead of the General Assembly. We have had very good cooperation with the USOC throughout our preparations and we have no doubt that they will host an excellent event," said ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg.
Prior to the assembly (Oct. 29-30), nine ANOC Commission and Working Group meetings and the 68th meeting of the ANOC Executive Council will take place on Oct. 27-28. The ANOC Awards 2015, set for Oct. 29 in the historic DAR Constitution Hall, will serve as the week’s marquee event. Olympic stars will be on hand to honor the top athletes from each of the Continental Games from the last year.
"The Foundation for Global Sports Development is a long-time supporter of the Olympic Movement, and is proud to extend that support to the USOC for the hosting of the XX ANOC General Assembly," said David Ulich, executive board member of GSD. "Through the Movement, the core values that GSD represents – sportsmanship, teamwork, education, integrity and agility – are promoted among the world’s youth."
The week will also include a robust cultural program whereby guests will have the opportunity to experience the many offerings in and around Washington, D.C., from museums and monuments to world-class dining and shopping.
"Our nation’s capital is truly unique – rich with history and diversity," said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. "It will provide the perfect backdrop to a week of collaboration and celebration with our international guests."
