Universal Sports Network Airs LIVE Coverage of Pairs Free, Men’s Free and Free Dance Competitions

Reigning U.S. Silver Medalist Rachael Flatt, Reigning U.S. Bronze Medalist Ross Miner and 2011 World Champion Patrick Chan Headline Second Stop of 2011 ISU Grand Prix

New York and Los Angeles – October 27, 2011 –Universal Sports Network and NBC Sports provide multi-platform coverage of the second stop in the 2011 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating with 2011 Skate Canada International. Universal Sports Network will begin its coverage this Sat., October 29 at 4 p.m. ET with live coverage of the Pairs Free Skate, followed at 7 p.m. ET with live coverage of the Men’s Free Skate. On Sun., October 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET, Universal Sports will provide live coverage of the Free Dance. NBC will air the Ladies and Men’s Free on Sat., November 5 at 5 p.m. ET, with Universal Sports Network re-airing the telecast at 6 p.m. ET.

In addition, UniversalSports.com will begin its live streaming of Grand Prix events this weekend, and continuing through the Grand Prix Final, for a subscription price of $14.95 for the season. For more information, go to http://www.universalsports.com/figure-skating/index.html.

Terry Gannon will call all the action for both Universal Sports and NBC Sports. He will be joined on the Universal Sports broadcasts by Peter Carruthers, an Olympic silver medalist and four-time U.S. champion pair skater, and Judy Blumberg, five-time U.S. champion ice dancer and winner of Skate Canada. On the NBC broadcast, Gannon will be joined by Olympic gold medalist and World and U.S. champion Tara Lipinski and three-time U.S. champion and two-time World bronze medalist Michael Weiss.

2011 Skate Canada will feature compelling skaters and storylines in all four areas of competition.

Ladies

Rachael Flatt, the reigning U.S. silver medalist, makes her Skate Canada debut this year. Flatt is a four-time Grand Prix Series medalist and earned a pair of silvers in her 2010 assignments to Skate America and NHK Trophy before competing at the 2010 Grand Prix Final. Mirai Nagasu continues the season after most recently winning 2011 Nebelhorn Trophy earlier this fall. She finished the 2010-11 season with a bronze medal at the Four Continents Championships after winning bronze at the U.S. Championships. Ashley Wagner, a four-time Grand Prix medalist, makes her second appearance at Skate Canada. Last season, she placed fifth at NHK Trophy before winning bronze at Rostelecom Cup.

Men

2011 World Champion and four-time defending Canadian Champion Patrick Chan will make his 2011 Grand Prix debut. Adam Rippon, who begins his fourth Grand Prix season, goes to Ontario in defense of his bronze medal at the 2010 edition of this event. Reigning U.S. bronze medalist Ross Miner begins his second season on the Grand Prix circuit.

Ice dancing

Newly formed team Madison Chock and Evan Bates make their Grand Prix Series debut together after starting the season with a third-place showing at 2011 Finlandia Trophy. With her former partner Greg Zuerlein, Chock is the reigning U.S. bronze medalists, while Bates was a 2010 Olympian with former partner Emily Samuelson.

Pairs

Russians Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, the 2011 World pairs silver medalists and the top ranked pair team in Mississauga, will face competition from last year’s Skate Canada International champions Lubov Iliushechkina and Nodari Maisuradze, as well as 2011 Canadian silver medalists Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, the top ranked Canadian pair team at the event.
