Universal Sports Begins "Countdown to London" Programming

With one year to go until the 2012 Olympic Games, Universal Sports' "Countdown to London" multi-platform programming begins Wednesday, July 27 at 6 a.m. ET, with a special look back at the greatest moments from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as well as primetime coverage from the 2011 Swimming World Championships in Shanghai. The action-packed day will kick off Universal Sports' year-long coverage of the world's biggest events and greatest athletes as they prepare for the Olympic Games in London.

The day of programming, titled "Countdown to London, One Year to Go Presented by DIRECTV," will not only include the best moments from Beijing, but will also feature in-studio updates throughout the day, hosted by 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist and Universal Sports commentator Paul Sunderland. The day will also include Universal Sports Track & Field analyst Ato Boldon's exclusive interview with 2008 Olympic 200m Silver Medalist Allyson Felix about her decision to run both the 200m and 400m at the World Championships in August (to be televised exclusively by Universal Sports) and her goals for the London Olympics. Also, Shawn Johnson will talk about her comeback and how she hopes to be a part of the 2012 Olympic team.

Universal Sports' 2008 Olympic Games retrospective will include the highlight series, "Pieces of 08", and a re-airing of the 2008 Opening Ceremony, which gave fans one of the most majestic experiences of any Olympic Games. "Pieces of 08" will feature moments like swimmer Michael Phelps' shattering of the Olympic record for the most gold medals won in a single Games, the United States Men's Gymnastics team's thrilling and unexpected medal-winning performance, and Misty May-Treanor's and Kerri Walsh's determined run at a second straight gold medal in beach volleyball.
