The first ever held IFSC Lead World Cup in United States since 1988 will take place on October 8 & 9 in Boulder, Colorado at the indoor venue of Movement Climbing + Fitness. The event will be organized by USA climbing, the American Climbing National Federation, in one of the premiere cities for competition climbing in the USA and magnet for all climbing enthusiasts.
"Hosting the IFSC World Cup will enhance the sport of climbing in the United States. It is an opportunity for our best athletes to compete in front of a home crowd at the highest level of international competition for the first time in over two decades." said Keith Ferguson, Chief Executive Officer of USA Climbing.
The world cup will attract to Boulder 67 of the world top athletes of the discipline. USA will compete with the largest national team, followed by France, Austria, Canada, Japan and Slovenia. Among the athletes who will rival on the routes set by the French Chief Routesetter Vincent Di Girolamo and its team: the new star Jakob Schubert (AUT), five times in a row lead world cup winner and awarded silver medal in Arco world championship; Angela Eiter (AUT), gold winner in Chamonix, second in Puurs & Briançon and current world champion of the discipline; Katharina Posch (AUT), awarded bronze medal in Xining; Ramón Julian Puigblanque (ESP), second in Chamonix & Changzhi, third on the podium in Briançon & Puurs and reigning world champion 2011; Manuel Romain (FRA), silver in Briançon and bronze in Xining; Sachi Amma (JPN), second on the podium in Xining & Puurs and third in Changzhi; Mina Markovic (SLO), gold in Chamonix & Xining, silver in Briançon & Changzhi, bronze in Puurs; Maja Vidmar (SLO), gold winner in Briançon; Sasha Digiulian (USA), sixth in Puurs, eight in Chamonix and overall champion in Arco; Thomas Tauporn (GER), sixth in Xining, fourth in Chanzi and vice overall world champion 2011. The only defection to remark is that of the Korean team, captain by Jain Kim, retained in Korea for an important national event.
All is ready to welcome the athletes to Boulder. A pumped up public of more than 6000 fans and supporters is expected to attend the event and enjoy a superb live competition. For all those who will not have the chance to be there, IFSC TV will webcast live the event. Schedule starts on Saturday, 8 with men’s and women’s qualification rounds at 11:30 am local time (CET 2:30 am) and will continue on Sunday, 9 with Semifinals at 12:00 am (CET 3:00) and with Finals at 7:00 pm (CET 10:00 am).
