The UCI Management Committee meeting ended today in Salzburg (AUT).
The second part of the meeting was mainly consecrated to examining projects that are in progress as well as evaluating propositions put forward by the Professional Cycling Council (PCC), which had met on Wednesday.
Members of the Management Committee were informed of the very satisfactory result so far of the approval procedure for frames and forks, introduced by the UCI in January 2011: to date, 71 manufacturers have joined this initiative, and 136 models have already been approved.
The UCI Management Committee also ratified the nomination of Mr Cyril Beaulieu (FRA) to the Equipment Commission.
The Management Committee took note of the progress of projects that aim, in particular, to further professionalise the UCI’s 600 International Commissaires (with a pilot training course during the 2012 Tour de l’Avenir), and to educate and inform young athletes and their entourage on the subject of doping (in collaboration with Lausanne University’s Institute of Science and Sport).
The creation of a central hearing panel concerning doping in cycling, which is currently being studied, was also the object of a presentation.
Concerning the recommendations from the PCC, the Management Committee approved an extension of the status quo for the use of earpieces in UCI WorldTour events until the end of the 2013 season, as well as the renewal of the mandate of the President and members of the Licences Commission for a period of four years.
Finally, with regards a request from the Association Internationale des Organisateurs des Courses Cyclistes (AIOCC) to modify the rules for altering the classification of a stage race in the case of a rider being disqualified, a decision was put off until September’s meeting.
