U.S. sprinter Tyson Gay lists two sponsorships on his website — Adidas and Omega. The former suspended its relationship after his failed drug test was revealed. Gay may lose the latter as well.
Omega wrote in an email to Around The Rings that it would be "very difficult" to continue its partnership with Gay.
"OMEGA was disappointed to learn that its brand ambassador Tyson Gay was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) that he had tested positive for a banned substance," a spokesperson told Around The Rings in an email.
"OMEGA supports fairness in sport and we are categorically opposed to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
"We respect Tyson Gay as a person, but in the current circumstances it would be very difficult to consider continuing our collaboration."
Of course, that could very well mean the watch company simply won’t renew its current contract with Gay whenever it expires.
Gay is not on the U.S. team for the World Track and Field Championships, which begin Saturday. But he has been to at least one track meet since he told The Associated Press in July that he failed a drug test in May. (It has since been reported that Gay failed multiple tests this year).
Gay made an appearance, promoted by the Amateur Athletic Union, at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit last week. As did Chad Ochocinco.
