Twenty-six NOCs to win medals in Sochi

With just over four weeks to go before the 2014 Winter Games begin in Sochi, Infostrada Sports’ Virtual Medal Table is projecting 26 different NOCs to win medals. This would be a record equalling performance as there were also 26 represented on the podium in Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010.

There are six NOCs – Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary, Liechtenstein and Spain – which are currently not expected to win medals, but do have performances projected to finish in the top 8. If a new record for the number of different medal winning NOCs is to be set, it will be due to one or more of this group performing better than expected.
