The Canadian Olympic Committee has issued the following statement:
"Hayley is one of the most accomplished and inspiring athletes in our country’s history competing in both the Winter Games in hockey and Summer Games in softball. She has competed for Canada with grit and passion to become our country’s all-time lead female scorer in hockey and a four-time Olympic Champion. While she is mostly celebrated for her vast accomplishments on the ice, she is also recognized as a great role model and a true leader in sport. For over thirty years, she fought so girls would have the opportunity to play our national sport. Her strong leadership was recognized by her peers when she was elected to the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission’s Athletes' Commission. Congratulations Hayley on an impressive career and for your invaluable contribution to sport."
