On Friday, the flame journeyed approximately 657 miles eastward from Kyzyl to one of Russia's largest coal mines -the Kedrovsky open-pitcoal mine.Four torchbearers carried the flame inside the mine on a truck.
Sochi 2014 says that since 2010, the mine has produced five million tons of coal per year. Latvia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Japan, and Thailand are "consumers of Kedrovsky coal."
The torch relay heads 15 miles south from the Kedrovskymine toKemerovo on Saturday, where Russian boxing starNikolai Valuev is among the torchbearers who will run with the flame through the city.
On Sunday, the flame travels approximately 135 miles northwest from Kemerovo to the city of Tomsk. Sochi 2014 says Tomsk is the oldest city in western Siberia.
A line-up of 100 torchbearers will run with the flame for approximately 12 miles through Tomsk.
Altogether, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 38,525 miles. The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
