The Olympic flame journeyed to Maykop on Monday, approximately 161 miles from Sochi.
Maykop is the capital of the Republic of Adygea and the birthplace ofOlympic judoka Vladimir Nevzorov.
RIA Novosti says the head of the Republic of Adygea,Aslan Tkhakushinov,commenced the torch relay in Maykop. Overall, 60 torchbearers carried the flame across a total distance of 6.5 miles.
Paralympian Valery Ponomarenko concluded the leg of the torch relay in Maykop.
On Tuesday, the torch relay heads to the city of Krasnodar. This city will stage matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Over 300 torchbearers will participate in Krasnodar's leg of the relay including Paralympic powerlifter Vladimir Krivulya and Olympic trampolinist Irina Karavaeva.
According to Sochi 2014, Krasnodar has a "unique type of transportation." Krasnodar's "ecobus" is essentially a bus on trolley tracks.
The flame arrives in Sochi on Wednesday for the final leg of the torch relay, and ultimately the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
