The Sochi 2014 torch relay took the day off after visiting two cities Tuesday.
The torch toured Grozny in Chechnya and Magas in Ingushetia. Arriving by plane in Grozny, the president of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov accompanies torchbearers as spectators in traditional Chechen dress cheered the relay.
The flame visited Akhmad Kadyrov Mosque in Grozny, the largest mosque in Europe, and President Kadyrov was given the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron to end the relay. According to the Organizing Committee, 70,000 residents of Grozny came to watch the torch relay.
After touring Chechnya, the flame went to Ingushetia to tour Magas. In Magas, 17 torchbearers took the flame around the first city created after the fall of the USSR.
Rahim Chakhiev, the final torchbearer in Magas, had to ascend the Tower of Concord to light the Olympic cauldron. The tallest building in the capital of Ingushetia, which sits 100 meters off the ground, could only be reached by a cable car
Thursday, the flame will visit Vladikavkaz in North Ossetia.
Due to Vladikavkaz's proximity to the breakaway territory of South Ossetia, currently claimed by Georgia, the torch relay will be conducted entirely inside Republican Spartak Stadium. In total, 31 torchbearers will carry the flame around the stadium.
Local Ossetian beer, dress, song, and dance will be on display during the relay. The flame will arrive via helicopter from Ingushetia, landing on a helipad in the middle of the stadium's pitch.
With less than one month to go, the flame is making its way back into European Russia and, ultimately, Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
