(ATR) The Olympic Torch spent Christmas by the Volga River touring the city of Samara.
More than 200 torchbearers carried the Olympic Flame through the city as it visited the Coca-Cola factory, the Volga River, and the "Cosmic Samara" monument. The monument was built to honor the contributions of Samara to Yuri Gagarin’s spaceflight.

Tagir Khaybulaev, Olympic Champion in judo, lit Samara’s Olympic Cauldron at the end of the relay. According to the city more than 200,000 people showed up to watch the Olympic Torch Relay on Christmas.
On Thursday, the torch visited the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin, Ulyanovsk.
In total, 140 torchbearers ran with the torch as it visited Lenin’s birthplace, the city center, and the Avistar-SP aviation plant.
As part of the relay the Olympic Torch was flown in a jet 600 meters above the city. The flight lasted about an hour and was visible to everyone in the city due to its low flight altitude.
Altogether, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a distance of 38,525 miles. The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
