Atos Changes Name
Olympic sponsor Atos Origin is now Atos after the acquisition of Siemens IT Solutions and Services GmbH.
The French information technology provider changed its name on July 1 after the deal was approved by shareholders.
Atos acquired Siemens for $1.2 billion, making it the largest information technology company in Europe.
"The combination of Atos Origin & Siemens IT Solutions and Services marks an exciting evolution in the IT market. Our chance to make our mark, to write history with our clients, to introduce brand new ideas to the market, to continue powering progress," said CEO and Chairman, Thierry Breton.
The deal creates a new company with revenue of $12.4 billion and 78,500 employees in 42 countries. Both parties committed $ 71.2 million to a global partnership that will develop new products and solutions.
It is unclear if Atos has already changed its corporate imagery related to the Olympics.
Johnson and Johnson Sponsor World Cup
Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson is the eighth and final 2014 World Cup.
The company revealed Thursday its designation as the official healthcare partner of the next World Cup, an arrangement expected to involve the company’s vision, oral, sun, skin and wound-care products.
"The FIFA World Cup unites people of all cultures, ages and socioeconomic levels like no other event, and we’re excited to tap into this passion and reach to further impact health and wellness around the world ," Johnson & Johnson corporate vice president Brian Perkins said in a statement.
"Through this sponsorship, the company will be able to reach new professionals and consumers and deepen our commitment and connection to the people and communities we serve."
The agreement also provides for activation around the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and brings to a close FIFA’s global sponsorship sales for Brazil 2014.
"Having a global, broadly based and trusted company like Johnson & Johnson as a FIFA World Cup Sponsor is a great asset for FIFA and we are honored to welcome them on board," said FIFA marketing director Thierry Weill.
"To have completed our global sponsorship sales three years before the event is truly remarkable and a source of great pride for FIFA".
J&J was a TOP sponsor during the Turin and Beijing Olympics.
The company now joins fellow FIFA second-tier sponsors Budweiser, Castrol, Continental, McDonald’sand Yingli Solar as well as Brazilian brands Oi, Seara and Yingli Solar.
The three slots remaining in the sponsorship roster are reserved for domestic companies based in the Brazilian market.
Who will join national supporters Itau, Nescau and Liberty Seguros is the final question for FIFA’s sales team ahead of the next World Cup.
McDonald’s Provides Sustainable Uniforms for Olympics
McDonald’s is teaming up with designers and an upcycling company to provide uniforms made from 100 percent recycled materials, which will be revealed at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
According to HR Magazine, the restaurant chain signed an agreement with British designers Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway and the company Worn Again, which takesused fabric and turns it into new clothing or bags.
The company will continue this process by eventually taking all old McDonald’s uniforms and re-designing them into new uniforms in the U.K.
"Our people welcome three million customers a day into our restaurants and they are at the heart of our business. We invest in them to provide nationally recognized qualifications and flexible working - just as important to them is the uniform they wear," said Jez Langhorn, head of talent and education for McDonald’s U.K.
Employees across the U.K. are competing to work at the Olympic Park restaurants. After London 2012, the new uniforms will be introduced to 1,200 restaurants and 85,000 employees in the U.K.
USOC Selects Catering for London 2012
The U.S. Olympic Committee selected The Concerto Group Ltd. as the caterer for the USOC’s High Performance Training Centre at the University of East London.
The group will provide food to the U.S. Olympians while they are training at the center.
"We are honored and privileged to have been awarded this contract and look forward to providing some of the greatest athletes in the world and the USA support personnel with nutritious and delicious food. It is a huge responsibility, but one we are thrilled to shoulder," said Guy Rodger, director of the Concerto.
"I’m brushing up on the Star Spangled Banner as this makes us part of the USA Team," he added.
Concerto secured many contracts for the London Olympics but this is the first one where it is providing food for athletes.
