Tokyo, 10 July 2012 - Tokyo 2020 today unveiled the names of nine international technical experts who have been working with the Japanese team on the Olympic and Paralympic bid. The participation of these accomplished individuals underscores Tokyo 2020's commitment to hosting energetic and innovative Games. Their collective experience will help ensure a spectacular celebration of Olympic Values in the heart of one of the world's most dynamic and safe cities.

Tokyo 2020 CEO Masato Mizuno said: "We are delighted to have first-class international support on the Tokyo team and simply passionate about building the best possible plan to stage a well-organised Games for the world's athletes. Building on the lessons learned in our previous bid, we are focused on delivering a clear, compelling Candidature File showing how the world's most forward-thinking city will stage Games of excellence and excitement, all for the benefit of sport."

The Director of Ways and Means Consultancy, Australian Simon Balderstone, is an event, communications, sport and environment consultant. He was a General Manager of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Organising Committee, and was also an advisor to the 2004 and 2008 Games IOC Coordination Commissions. He is a former International Olympic Committee (IOC) advisor and member of the IOC Evaluation Commissions for the 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 Olympic Games.

Founder and President of Diane Bernstein Design (DBD), Diane Bernstein provides Olympic Games concept and venue design expertise, advising on sports venues, Olympic Village and the Main Media Centre. Her experience includes both design and operational projects for the 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. She has also lent her expertise to several Olympic bids including the Paris 2012 and Tokyo 2016 Bid campaigns.

Etienne Thobois, Edouard Donnelly and Franck Ladouce represent the Paris based Keneo, a company specialising in managing and organising major International sporting events. These Paris 2012 Olympic Games and French UEFA Euro 2016 bids veterans will assist the Tokyo 2020 team in areas like Sports, Finance, Marketing, Technology, Media operations, Paralympics, Medical, Legal and customs and immigration. Former badminton Olympian Thobois is also a former IOC advisor and served as a member of the IOC 2016 evaluation commission.

CEO Neil Fergus and senior managers David Gray and Bob Costello of Intelligent Risks (IR), a specialist management services company, have served as security planners and operational coordinators at numerous Olympic Games, including the highly acclaimed Sydney 2000 Games. They bring years of major events experience to the team. Fergus served as a Senior Adviser to the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games as well as an Adviser for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Bid; Gray worked extensively with the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games; and Costello worked closely with the Athens 2004 Games, the Beijing 2008 Games and the Tokyo 2016 Games Bid. The broad international perspective and security experience of Intelligent Risks will guarantee Tokyo 2020 a safe, well-organised Olympic Games.

Panos Protopsaltis, Head of Transport for the Athens 2004 Organising Committee was also responsible for the Transport Plan of the successful Rio 2016 Bid. Further experience in candidacies includes Paris 2012 and Annecy 2018. He is a former IOC expert and has worked in various assignments for Torino 2006, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Sochi 2014 Organising Committees. Protopsaltis has agreed to support Tokyo 2020 as an international transport consultant, where his experience and expertise will ensure Tokyo makes the best use of the world's most extensive urban railway and road system. He is an IOC Olympic Order holder.

Tokyo 2020 made their first announcement regarding consultants in May at SportAccord. Content agency Seven46 founded by Nick Varley is developing key messages and presentations for Tokyo 2020, while global public relations agency Weber Shandwick's Svetlana Picou is leading on strategic communications and PR. Sports management agency JAPPO founder and President Diamil Faye, former Secretary General of the International Olympic Committee and Director of the Olympic Museum Françoise Zweifel, and Advisor to the PyeongChang Winter Games Olympic Bid Committee Young-Sook Lee were also confirmed as the key international experts and are working closely with the Tokyo 2020 bid.

With the support of this experienced team, Tokyo 2020 is confident its Candidature File, which will be submitted on 7 January 2013, will be successful. The host city election will be on 7 September 2013, during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
