We are pleased to share with you comments by Yoshiro Mori, President of The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, regarding the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony.

"I would like to pay tribute to all the staff at the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for their outstanding efforts as they deliver the first ever Olympic Games to be hosted in South America.

"I was deeply moved as I watched the passion of the Opening Ceremony. I believe it helped lift the spirits of all the athletes from around the world in advance of tomorrow’s start of the Games. I deeply respect all the staff at the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for their outstanding efforts.

"Over the next 17 days, the world will witness incredible performances by the world’s finest athletes in a dynamic atmosphere, in a further demonstration of the spirit and values of the Olympic movement. The Tokyo 2020 team is looking forward to learning a great deal from the Rio 2016 Games. The experience and knowledge we gain here will help us to put in place our own plans to organise a superb Games in 2020 that will once again showcase the power of sport."
