(ATR) Tokyo 2020 added the first of its second-tier sponsors on Jun. 15.
All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines (JAL) became the official providers of "passenger air transportation services" for the 2020 Games. This is the first official announcement for next phase in the Tokyo 2020 sponsorship drive, after the organizing committee wrapped up signing Gold Partners in April.
The organizing committee told Around the Rings in April that discussions were beginning to bring on second-tier sponsors for the Games, and interest in the Japanese business community was "very strong."
Tokyo 2020 secured 13 gold partners during its first sponsorship drive, estimated to bring a total of $1.51 billion in revenue to the organizing committee. Tokyo’s original estimate for sponsorship revenue was for $1.3 billion.
"Following on from our selection of two companies in the banking category, we are delighted to welcome ANA and JAL as official partners in the single category of passenger air transportation services," Yoshiro Mori, president of Tokyo 2020, said in a statement.
Mori added that the sponsorships will "further serve to build a Japan-wide momentum ahead of the 2020 Games."
