Istanbul, Turkey; 06 June 2018: The Turkish Olympic Committee’s (TOC) Sports Culture and Olympic Education Programme (OLI) has concluded its activities for the 2017-18 academic year and has now reached more than two million children since 2006.
The multi-activity programme reached approximately 100,000 children in 17 cities between October 2017 and June, visiting more 320 schools. Yesterday, OLI concluded its activities for the year with a presentation to school children in Istanbul.
First launched in 2006, OLI is designed to spread the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence and the importance of sports culture among children, their teachers and their families.
Children take part in a series of interactive audio-visual presentations, which are prepared with the help of experts and include topics such as Olympic sports, Olympic values, the benefits of sport, the importance of nutrition, Fair Play and the environment. The TOC’s OLI mascot was created specifically for this programme and interacts with children during the presentations. Children engage with OLI by being asked various Olympic and sport related questions and are rewarded with small gifts for correct answers.
This year’s presentations featured a number of Turkish athletes including Olympian ski jumper Fatih Arda İpçioğlu, Olympian swimmer Nida Eliz Üstündağ, fencer Enver Yıldırım, basketball player Egemen Güven, volleyball player Ayşegül Girgin, taekwondo athlete Sibel Güngör, karate athlete Eren Akkurt and boxer Turgut Aykaç.

"On behalf of the TOC, I’d like to thank all those involved in making the OLI project such an overwhelming success."
