Holland might be a small country, but it’s close to a superpower when it comes to the medals table … and celebrating its athletes’ wins.
As of Sunday, the Dutch were in fifth place in the medals count. As of Sunday, Holland Heineken House was in first place as the only place to be for a good time.
One night, visitors could see and hear speed skating champion Michel Mulder performing with VanVelzen, one of the Dutch bands playing in the HHH.
As one PR person put it, "Not only do our athletes win medals, but they sing, too!"
Saturday night was no exception:
- The men’s and women’s speed skating team pursuit athletes were presented with pieces of the legendary lane.
- The NOC president, Andre Bolhuis, gave awards to all team coaches.
- Fedde le Grand, an internationally known DJ, entertained the crowd until the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The House is open to all visitors, including athletes from other countries. Also on Saturday night, the American ladies bobsleigh team was on hand for a little R&R, now that their competition was over. It finishes its "competition" Sunday night when the curtains come down on the closing ceremony.
