Tokyo 2020 opened its ticket lottery at May 9 to allow residents of Japan to register online for specific tickets. Authorized ticket resellers (ATRs) around the world also began accepting
requests for tickets and packages.
Within Japan, the initial stage of ticket sales will continue until11:59 p.m. on May 28, with results announced on June 20. The website is ticket.tokyo2020.org.

Although traffic was heavy at the time of the announcement, Tokyo 2020 stressed that all orders are treated equally and there is no advantage to early registration.
A Tokyo 2020 ID is required to apply for the lottery in Japan. The organizing committee notes that about 2.13 million people have signed up for this ID since last summer. Payments must be online with a Visa card or in cash at a convenience store.
ATRs have different deadlines with sales beginning as early as June 15.
In the United States, CoSport notes that the ticket requests phase is open May 9-31, ticket requestconfirmations will be released June 20 and the deadline to pay for tickets is June 26.
"This is not a first-come, first-served process," CoSport warns. "Requests are accepted only online. All requests successfully submitted before May 31, 2019 will receive equal consideration."
There are about 7.8 million tickets available for a record 339 events in 33 sports, although the number of tickets is subject to change.
Half of all tickets are priced at 8,000 yen ($73) or less. The highest prices are for sports including basketball, gymnastics, baseball, judo, soccer and swimming. Tickets range from 12,000 to 300,000 yen ($110 to $2,738) for the opening and closing ceremony.
There are five seat categories from A to E. The maximum number of tickets per session is 2 to 8, and applicants can win up to 30 tickets.
However, for those who do not score the tickets they desired or want to try for more events, the next phases of ticketing will be on a first-come, first-served basis. In Japan, these tickets will go
on sale in the fall of 2019 while global tickets will be available in the spring of 2020.
Online ticket sales for the 2020 Paralympic Games will begin this summer with in-person sales in the summer of 2020.
