After the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, what’s next for this newest member of the Olympic Family?
"The Youth Olympic Games: Growth Spurt & Growing Pains" is the topic for the latest Around the Rings Newsmaker Breakfast, Oct. 21 in Acapulco.
"The Singapore Youth Games delivered an inaugural event that set the bar high for future editions," ATR Editor Ed Hula said. "But like all new endeavors, there are always questions about what comes next. Will the YOG disappear after a few sessions, or will they become as popular as the Olympic Games? Our panelists will speak about the experience of Singapore and how the new Games can grow – as well as the challenges ahead for the YOG to succeed."
Expert panelists include Gunilla Lindberg, IOC member from Sweden and secretary general of the Swedish Olympic Committee; IOC member Sergey Bubka, who led the IOC Coordination Commission for Singapore, and IOC Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli.
Also invited are representatives from the 2012 inaugural Winter YOG in Innsbruck, Austria, and Nanjing, China, host of the 2014 Summer YOG.
The event is sponsored by Concerto Group and Imagination London in conjunction with the Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly taking place at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess Hotel, Oct. 17 to 25.
The Acapulco Breakfast also marks another milestone for Around the Rings.
"We are also pleased to announce our newest partners for the Breakfasts," said publisher Sheila Scott Hula. "While we have hosted these events for nearly 15 years, Concerto Group and Imagination bring a new level of sophistication and expertise to the event’s management. We look forward to working with them as we get closer to London 2012."
"We are delighted to be working in partnership with Around the Rings to support their successful networking breakfast program both in Acapulco and beyond. As London venue and event experts, we look forward to the opportunity to meet members of the Olympic Family and explain our unique offer," said Mike Kershaw, Concerto Group chairman.
Around the Rings Newsmaker Breakfasts began at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta when people who were influential in the Olympic Family were invited to the ATR office for an informal chat with select journalists. Since then it has become a truly international event, with breakfasts in Beijing, Chicago, Copenhagen, London, Salt Lake City, Sydney, and Vancouver.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8 a.m., followed by ATR editor Ed Hula introducing the topic and panel at 8 a.m. The floor will be turned over to questions from the audience for the remainder of the event after a Q & A with the panelists.
Space is strictly limited. To register click here or call Isia Wilcox at +1 404 874 1603.
