The ‘2014 FISU Forum Gwangju’, hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and organized by the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC 2015), successfully began its week long journey on March 17th and will continue on until the 22nd. 260 participants from 70 countries will take part in the forum for 6 days at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju.

The ‘FISU Forum’ is part of FISU’s educational program and is comprised of conferences attended by International university sports officials and university students to build a network and discuss ways to advance the development of university sports. It is held every other year, alternating with the Universiade.

This year’s FISU Forum Gwangju is being held under the main theme "University Sport: A networking platform to advance the technical, social and cultural skills of young leaders" with four sub-themes on "Sustainable development, Sports Ethics, Leadership of youths, and Social Media". The conferences for each sub-theme will be held as a plenary session and workshops.

Addition to the conferences, sports and cultural activities, as well as a Forum Fair, will be held.

The opening ceremony for the 2014 FISU Forum Gwangju was held in the multi-purpose hall of the Kimdaejung Convention Center and was attended by Kang Un-tae (Chairman of GUOC, Mayor of Gwangju City), Oleg Matytsin (FISU First Vice-president), Kim Jong-yang (FISU Assessor), Alison Odell (FISU First-Assesor) and other FISU Executive Committee members, as well as more than 300 participants of the forum.

During the forum, each day will concentrate on one sub-theme and invited speakers will give keynote speeches, followed by workshops and sectional discussions.

On the 20th, the Forum Fair will allow each participating country to show off their home country’s cultural aspects through presentations and performances.

In order to promote harmony and friendship of the participants, participants will take part in traditional cultural activities as well as sporting events such as basketball and taekwondo. City tours and Universiade venue tours will also take place to enrich the experience of the forum participants and make their stay in Gwangju as enjoyable as possible.
