Madrid has proudly presented the eleventh edition of the Mutua Madrid Open with the presence of the four best tennis players of the circuit (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray) at the Caja Mágica (the Magic Box), where the tournament is to take place next May 4 to 13 on "blue clay" for the first time.
Ana Botella, Mayor of Madrid; Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee (SOC); Ion Tiriac and Manolo Santana, the Promoter of the Mutua Madrid Open and its Director; Jaime Montalvo, Vice-president of Mutua Madrileña, and tennis players Venus Williams and Fernando Verdasco were some of the participants to the presentation ceremony.
The 48 best tennis players of the world will be present at this eleventh edition, counting among them six Mutua Madrid Open winners, including number one of the ATP, Serbian Novak Djokovic, who won the competition in 2011.
Ana Botella, Mayor of Madrid, highlighted that this tournament "places Madrid at the circuit of great world events such as the Paris, Rome, Shanghai, Montreal and Monte Carlo competitions". Thirty-five million people are expected to watch the Mutua Madrid Open in 180 countries, welcoming 185,000 spectators, with an advertising impact of 24 million euro – most of it (75%) at an international level.
"This is an extraordinary occasion to promote Madrid’s image and a unique opportunity to present the city’s efforts and willingness to host the Olympic Games. Madrid 2020 will be the best Games in history, since they are the result of the efforts, constancy and strength of all of us", Botella stated. "The Mutua Madrid Open is one of the greatest exponents of the Madrid 2020 Bid", she added.
