The ICMG Executive Committee met for the second time in 2021, to discuss
important topics of the 2021 Ordinary Elective General Assembly and of the progress
of preparations of the 19th Mediterranean Games in Oran in 2022, of the 20th
Mediterranean Games in Taranto in 2026 and of the Mediterranean Beach Games in
Pesaro in 2023.
The Executive Committee decided to organize the Ordinary General Assembly of
2021 on October 14th, 2021 in Oran, Algeria, the day after the Chefs de Mission
Seminar of the 26 countries participating in the 19th Mediterranean Games Oran
2022. Should health conditions related to the pandemic in Algeria do not allow the
holding of the General Assembly in person, it can then be organized - following the
decision of the ExCo - by videoconference and voting will take place online.
The state of play of preparations for the 2022 Oran Games was presented in detail by
the President of the ICMG Coordination Commission, Mr. Bernard Amsalem, and the
Director General of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Salim Ilès.
The ICMG ExCo noted with satisfaction the progress of works at the infrastructural
level, pointing out, however, some delays in the field of technical organization, that
cause some concern as the final operational phase approaches. Bureaucratic delays
remain cumbersome, particularly in the financial field, and as regards tender
procedures to ensure the necessary allocations for the smooth running of the
Games, including the selection of the Doping Control Laboratory, Technology,
Communication.
June 25th, 2021 is the "One year to go", a date that shall determine the sending out
of the official invitations by the ICMG to the participating countries. Therefore, the
OCMGO is urged to significantly intensify preparations.
The President of the ICMG Coordination Commission of the 20th Mediterranean
Games "Taranto 2026", Victor Sanchez, presented an update on the launch of the
preparation process, marked by the establishment of the Organizing Committee and
the outline of a general project. The first joint meeting between the two parties will
be held shortly by videoconference. The EC noted with satisfaction the respect of the
timetable set out in the ICMG Charter.
As regards the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games scheduled to be held in Pesaro in
2023, the host city, severely impacted financially by the effects of the pandemic, is
currently taking steps to ensure the funding of the Games and guarantee their
effective organization.
A report of the Working Group in charge of studying the program of Wrestling events
in the Oran Games, following the request of the President of United World Wrestling
(UWW), was also presented to ExCo members.
