The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), the not-for-profit institution based in Doha, has announced today that it has become an official member of the United Nations Global Compact - the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world.
In keeping with the ICSS’s mission to promote best practice in sport security and integrity, the Global Compact is a strategic initiative run by the United Nations with the specific aim of providing collaborative solutions to the most fundamental challenges currently facing both business and society.
With over 8700 corporate participants and other stakeholders from over 130 countries, the UN Global Compact aims to encourage businesses to align themselves with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Alongside its own global network of sport security and integrity practitioners, the ICSS will now be able to access additional knowledge and expertise across a range of key stakeholders from the UN Global Compact. The new membership will also enable the ICSS access to a wide spectrum of management tools and resources to provide a practical framework for the development, implementation, and disclosure of sustainability policies and practices.
Mohammed Hanzab, President of the ICSS, said: "The ICSS is already strongly engaged in the promotion of the tenth principle of the Global Compact regarding the fight against corruption. Through our ongoing initiative with the Sorbonne University, which looks to proactively address the threat of sport results’ manipulation and match fixing, I hope that the ICSS will be able to promote these core values endorsed by the UN Global Compact throughout the sporting community."
