Los Angeles, Calif. – March 23, 2020 – The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD), an organization dedicated to promoting the health benefits of sport for youth, is pleased to announce the launch of its 2020 Exceptional Youth Scholarship.

To mark the scholarship’s sixth year, GSD has updated the program to grant five $10,000 scholarships from its previous award structure of ten $5,000 prizes.

"Over the years, we have seen applicants with remarkable qualifications who also have a high level of financial need. Even with aid, many students need additional funds to cover the cost of school," said Dr. Steven Ungerleider, GSD Executive Board Member. "By making this change and increasing the amount of each scholarship, we hope to further remove barriers to secondary education for these deserving students."

The scholarship is open to high school seniors graduating in the class of 2020. The scholarship committee will consider each applicant’s academic achievement, volunteerism and mentorship, and financial need.

"We are always impressed by our scholarship recipients’ accomplishments," said David Ulich, GSD Executive Board Member. "The Exceptional Youth Scholarship is our way of rewarding these students for their efforts and supporting them as they continue their journey. We consider it an important investment in our community."

Eligible students have until April 30, 2020 to apply.
