(ATR)Ezra Edelman - who directed and produced the biopic "O. J. Made In America" - is said to be the future director of a film based on the life of Richard Jewell.
The movie is titled "The Ballad of Richard Jewell" and is based on a Vanity Fair article written in 1997 by Marie Brenner. Jewell is known for his discovery of a backpack bomb planted in Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Atlanta Games. He was called a hero after alerting the police of his discovery and clearing the area of visitors, saving dozens of lives.
Soon after, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released an article revealing Jewell was considered a "person of interest" in the bombing by the FBI. For weeks the media portrayed Jewell as a criminal.
Three months later Jewell was cleared as a suspect by the FBI but never regained his reputation. Eric Rudolph was later found to have been the bomber. Jewell sued not only the AJC but several other news outlets for defamation.
Jewell died in 2007 of a heart attack at the age of 44.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill are said to be featured actors in the film, with Hill playing Jewell and DiCaprio playing Jewell's attorney.
The date of the film's release has yet to be announced.
