(ATR) As the chefs de mission seminar gets underway in Minsk, organizers are preparing to test European Games venues and operations.

Representatives from 49 European NOCs are attending the 9-13 July meeting to be fully briefed on plans for the second edition of the Games after Baku 2015.

"Only by working together will we make the European Games as successful as they possibly can be," said European Olympic Committees president Janez Kocijančič.

The EOC said collaboration between the Minsk European Games Organising Committee (MEGOC) and NOCs of Europe "is paramount for the success of the Games".

Minsk 2019 chief George Katulin is leading the visit together with the EOC’s senior consultant Pierce O’Callaghan, European Games executive director Simon Clegg and other senior EOC officials.

Among discussion points in the sessions will be the 15-strong sport competition program, accreditation, accommodation, medical and anti-doping, volunteers and ticketing.

Delegates are also expected to tour sports venues that will host the multisport event in 2019 and check out the site of the athletes village.

Amid the exchange of information between the organizing committee and European NOCs, Games officials are busy preparing a raft of test events in August to fine-tune the Games set-up.

Belarus sports minister Sergei Kovalchuk said in a TV interview that preparations are going well, according to a BelTA report.

"Already in August we will start holding test events. Many of the facilities are ready. Some are being added finishing touches," he was quoted as saying.

"The preparations are on schedule. We have a plan of action. We have qualified specialists. All want to show the country in the best possible light and also to show the results in sports."

The 2nd European Games will be held in Minsk from 21 to 30 June 2019 at 12 sports venues.

More than 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 200 medal events at next year’s Games. Competitions in 10 sports will serve as qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics.
