(ATR) Brazilian commuters were offered a chance to win tickets to the upcoming Rio 2016 table tennis test event.
Rio 2016 and the Brazilian table tennis team took over Central Station in the heart of the city, and asked people on their way to work to play a match of table tennis for a chance to win tickets to the test event on Nov. 16. If the commuter was able to win a few points, they would receive a ticket and their own paddle.
Table tennis will host a test event in Rio on Nov. 18-21 at the Riocentro Convention Center.
Making appearances at Central Station were mascots Vinicius and Tom, who even tried their hand at table tennis to get into the festivities.
"I think it is really important to make an event like this where many people come to this station and live our sport," Gustavo Tsuboi, a member of the Brazil table tennis team, told Around the Rings.
"They can play against us, and they can see the spin we can make on the ball and the speeds of the serves. It is really good to promote our sport, and we like the opportunity to give away tickets so people can see the test event."
