This February, the city of Fort Lauderdale will play host to 32 of the world’s best male and female beach volleyball teams, including the heroes from this past summer’s Olympic Games in Rio. The last time the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series visited Fort Lauderdale was for the 2015 Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals, but this year the ‘Venice of America’ will kick off the Swatch Major Series and open up the 2017 FIVB World Tour.

"We are elated to return to this incredible beach in Fort Lauderdale where we had an enthusiastic crowd and thrilling matches in 2015," said Beach Majors CEO, Hannes Jagerhofer. "For 2017 our aim is to make the Swatch Major Series U.S. stop bigger and even more spectacular."

The event, which will run from 7-12 February, will feature the most talented and well-known players in the sport. This will include the top U.S. men’s team of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, as well as the Olympic gold medal-winning international pairings of Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst (GER) and Bruno Schmidt and Alison Cerutti (BRA). Both teams medaled in the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale, and will look to defend their reputations as the world’s best teams this February.

Three-time beach volleyball Olympian Phil Dalhausser is excited to hear the season will start in South Florida: "I love that we are going to Fort Lauderdale to start the season. Fort Lauderdale’s beach is beautiful and the weather in Florida in February will be perfect."

Fans who wish to attend the five-day tournament can expect an electric atmosphere as they watch the highest level of beach volleyball the world has to offer. Admission will once again be free for general spectators, but for those who wish to attend in style, there will be opportunities to purchase tailored VIP packages which offer premium seating close to the action and world-class cuisine, among other amenities to be announced as the tournament draws closer.

After winners are crowned in Florida, the Swatch Major Series will continue its global tour during the summer of 2017.
