Study Shows BMX Racing is Growing Rapidly

BMX ranked sixth overall in the most recent sports participation study conducted by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). The annual study found that over the past three-year cycle, participation in BMX has increased from 1.86 to 2.69 million people (an increase of 44.6%). This stratospheric growth illustrates the strength and sustainability of the sport going forward.

BMX racing is also coming off the most successful Olympic Games in United States history. Connor Fields of Las Vegas, Nevada, won the first ever BMX gold medal for Team USA. Alise Post of St. Cloud, MN, added a silver medal in the women's BMX competition in Rio - the first women's silver for Team USA.

"Our sport is as strong as it has ever been, and our team at USA BMX is focused on continuing that momentum to keep kids active and engaged in BMX racing," said John David, Chief Operating Officer, USA BMX.

A recent quote by Brian Cookson, President of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), further supported the popularity of the sport, "The BMX races (at the Rio Olympics) demonstrated that our youngest Olympic discipline is now truly one of the most popular events at the Olympic Games."

In addition, USA BMXannounced today that the 2018 National Race Series RFP is now available. The 2017 race schedule will include 43 national races, a model the 2018 schedule is sure to follow. The RFP can be downloaded here. Bids are due by May 5, 2017.
