(ATR) A participation medal from the 1912 Stockholm Olympics is one of the extraordinary items in the latest Olympic memorabilia auction of Ingrid O’Neil at www.ioneil.com.
Valued at $300,000 and described as "of utmost rarity" the gold medal is said to be one of only three known to exist. The medal came from the collection of the granddaughter of Stockholm 1912 organizer Viktor Balek.
Among the mementos offered from the 1964 Olympics is the white ribboned badge for the emperor of Japan. The badge is also considered a rarity, with a pre-auction listing price of $130,000.
With the Olympic torch relay underway in Japan, the first of the torches from the relay are entering the collector’s market. The O’Neil auction includes one that is priced at $12,000.
A torch from the 1994 relay for the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer is listed in the auction catalog for $22,000.
In the realm of fine art, the auction features the original oil on board work by Michael Delacroix for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The painting is a representation of the city of Atlanta from 1896 to 1996. The Paris-born artist was commissioned to create the painting to be used as the official poster of the 1996 Games.
Details about the dozens of items in the auction can be found at the website, www.ioneil.com.
The auction closes April 24.
