With only 7 days to go before the start of the 2nd CISM World Winter Games, the Annecy 2013 Organizing Committee has unveiled the medals that will honor the exploits of a corps of champions.
Axel is a ten year old with a dream. A member of the French Ski Federation, he was skiing almost as soon as he could walk, and his goals is to become an elite racer and win the same medals as the champions whose pictures adorn his bedroom walls. The Annecy 2013 Organizing Committee offered Axel a taste of his dream when they asked him to unveil the medals created for the 2nd World Winter Games.
The 198 medals (66 gold, 66 silver, and 66 bronze) were specially designed and produced using cutting edge technology by world famous medal designer and official Annecy 2013 partner Arthus-Bertrand. In just a few days, the medals, which bear the stylized France snowflake emblem of Annecy 2013, will be awarded to the top athletes in each of the events on the program at the largest military sports competition ever held in France (1000 participants, 40 nations).
Many of the top names in international civilian competition have a background in military sport. From 25 to 29 March, the World Winter Games will bring together some of the world’s leading athletes, including Olympic and World champions, for a memorable sporting spectacle against the backdrop of Lake Annecy and Mont-Blanc.
Six disciplines are on the program: alpine skiing, Nordic skiing (cross-country, biathlon, patrol), short track speed skating, ski mountaineering, ski orienteering and climbing. Events will be held in Annecy La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
Medal ceremonies will be held at 18:00 on 26, 27 and 28 March at the Games Village in the heart of Annecy (Place François de Menthon). The ski mountaineering medal ceremony will be held in Chamonix Mont-Blanc on Thursday 28 March at 20:30, at the Planards.
