The Sports & Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) Conference and Exhibition, now in its fourth year, will be taking place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban from 28 to 30 October 2014 together with third year Conference Sponsor, the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA).

SETE is a dynamic business to business platform that is aimed at positioning South Africa as a sports & events tourism destination. It encourages collaboration between the sports, events and tourism industries who will showcase their product offerings to the attending International Hosted Buyers and SA corporates who are interested in bringing business to South Africa.

Following the success of the previous three conferences, this year’s conference is aimed at celebrating the successes and achievements of the events tourism industry over the past 20 years. This year the focus has been expanded to include Arts, Cultural and Lifestyle events with sports events as part of the Events Tourism sector. As an expert in events tourism we invite you to submit your interest in participating as a speaker at this prestigious conference.

The Conference’s aims and objectives:

· to assess the progress in implementing the resolutions adopted in the SETE 2013 conference,

· understand the skills and employment needs of the Events Tourism industry,

· the global and national trends associated with the Sponsorship of events,

· the priorities of government in supporting events,

· the role that the media plays in supporting events and

· the challenges and opportunities to support youth development in the events tourism industry.

Conference topics and briefs include:

· Government’s priorities in supporting the growth of the events tourism industry.

The debate is aimed at reviewing the implementation of the resolutions adopted at the SETE 2013 conference and to understand the role that the relevant government institutions will play in prioritising events tourism.

· Support offered by host cities to grow events

An understanding of the strategies and plans of host cities to support events aimed at growing their tourism economies.

· Sponsorship trends in the events tourism industry.

This is a panel discussion involving major sponsors of events to provide insights about the trends, challenges and opportunities that events present for sponsors. Using case studies panel members will identify the key factors that influence their decision in supporting events, the challenges experienced and the opportunities that events present for sponsors.

· The role of media in supporting events

This topic is aimed at understanding the challenges that federations experience in promoting their events and the role that the media can play in supporting federations.

· Other topics include looking at supporting the growth of key events to contribute to tourism growth. The discussion is aimed at understanding the factors that contributed to the success of these events in contributing to the growth of the tourism industry and the challenges experienced. Followed by the role of BRICS / African countries to support the bidding and hosting of international events and bidding and hosting international events – International Buyers perspective.

At the end of these discussions experts will be required to summarize the discussions focusing on the key agreements achieved which will be tabled as resolutions at the end of the conference.
