Lausanne, 14 November 2013 – During its meeting on the 4th of November, the Council of SportAccord unanimously decided to establish "SISO", the Sports Integrity Standards Organisation, to accelerate its on-going efforts in the areas of sports integrity and social responsibility.
SISO will not only coordinate and support the existing efforts of the International Federations (IFs) with regards to Integrity and Social Responsibility. It will also develop standards, guidelines and licensing systems for both the sport world and service providers. Consequently it will become the ‘go to’ place for any assistance or clarification on these topics.
SISO will accelerate public awareness towards match-fixing, sustainability and social responsibility. It will signal that the world of international sport is capable of defending itself against the malpractices of fixers and cheats. Moreover, it will establish new ways and strategies in the field of prevention and education towards fair sport and a better world.
The establishment of SISO is a natural continuation of SportAccord’s fight against the crucial issues affecting sports. By aiming to support its 109 members in fighting match-fixing and illegal betting, implementing sustainability in their sports events, SportAccord has become a regular participant in key international expert groups and transnational initiatives.
Sports betting operators, regulators and law enforcement agencies have been, thus far concentrating on the functions of monitoring and sanctioning. SportAccord believes that focus is to be shifted to education and awareness for the benefit of all sport stakeholders.
SportAccord holds a privileged position to bring the sports organisations together and fight the number one threat to the integrity of Sport. The Global Programme to Stop Match-Fixing in Sport is a significant example of SportAccord’s commitment to assist and guide federations, athletes and officials to stand true to the values of sport. Sustainability has also been ranked high in SportAccord’s list of priorities. The Sport Sustainability e-learning Programme is the most visible side to a five pillar sustainability strategy that aims to assist International Federations with regards to Education, Implementation, Reporting, Communicating and Certifying their sustainability efforts.
