At the SportAccord Council meeting held today at the Maison du Sport, Lausanne, the Members representing the four Associations ASOIF, AIOWF, ARISF, AIMS and the Associate Members today reviewed the feedback received from all SportAccord Members following the Extraordinary General Assembly in Lausanne on 11th November 2015.
In consideration of the next steps for the structure of the organisation to propose to the SportAccord General Assembly which will take place on 22nd April 2016, the SportAccord Council decided to keep SportAccord as a stand-alone organisation with the individual membership of the International Federations. As part of the unanimous decision of the SportAccord Council, the Members agreed to revise a number of articles in the Statutes to ensure a solid governance of the organisation.
The intention still exists to merge SportAccord and the SportAccord Convention into one organisation in the future, but firstly the structure and governance of SportAccord remains the current focus.
Chairman of the SportAccord Council Gian Franco Kasper said: "We appreciate the constructive input received from many Members who have underlined the important role of SportAccord for interaction between all International Federations to exchange best practices and learn from each other. We need to ensure this effective collaboration amongst the Federations continues, and the decision to keep two separate entities is the right solution for the time being."
SportAccord Convention President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: "SportAccord Convention is constituted by the Associations and it is operating effectively and run by our professional team. We are very much looking forward to the 2016 edition in Lausanne, which is promising to be a highly successful Convention, hand in hand with the SportAccord Members."
