Samsung’s Record Profit

TOP sponsor Samsung recorded a $7.3 billion profit last quarter.

The figure is a record for the Korean electronics manufacturer, and the company expects to record a $25 billion profit for the entire year.

Samsung will release its full-quarter results Oct. 26. The reported profits are double what the company earned last year.

The profits do not include the fine Samsung may need to pay for violating an Apple patent, as Samsung appealed the original decision.

Samsung’s Galaxy SIII phone – ubiquitous at London 2012 –experienced a jump in sales this year, even with the release of Apple’s iPhone 5. The company partnered with Google to make the SIII the "de facto" Android phone on the market, boosting its sales.

Korean Air, Incheon 2014 Ink Deal

Korean Air is the first prestige partner for the 14th Asian Games – and the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2013.

The 2014 Asian Games will be held in Incheon, Korea, as will the Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding earlier in the year, but Korean Air officially became the first prestige partner for the Games this week.

The 2014 Asian Games also hope to secure prestige partnerships with Samsung, SK, and Shinhan Bank by the end of the year.

Also, Tissot signed on as a partner for the Games.

Tokyo 2020 Signs Airline

All Nippon Airways was unveiled as the Japanese bid’s sixth partner Thursday.

ANA, one of the largest carriers in the Asia-Pacific region, will collaborate extensively with Tokyo's previously announced sponsors, ASICS, DESCENTE, JTB, Mizuno Corporation and Kinki Nippon Tourist to help secure the 2020 Games.

Bid president Tsunekazu Takeda said: "Today's announcement is further demonstration of the passionate support that Tokyo 2020 is receiving from all levels of Japanese society; including significant backing from a wide range of Japanese businesses."

ANA is also an official airline partner of the Japanese Olympic Committee, supporting Japan's national team members who take part in global sporting events and helping to promote the Olympic Movement.
