Omega Reconsidering Tyson Gay Sponsorship
Following the confirmation he used performance-enhancing drugs, Tyson Gay seems poised to lose another sponsorship, Around the Rings understands.
TOP Sponsor Omega said in a statement to ATR, it is "very difficult" to consider extending its sponsorship of the sprinter.
"OMEGA was disappointed to learn that its brand ambassador Tyson Gay was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) that he had tested positive for a banned substance," a spokesperson said in an email.
"OMEGA supports fairness in sport and we are categorically opposed to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
"We respect Tyson Gay as a person, but in the current circumstances it would be very difficult to consider continuing our collaboration."
Adidas said it would suspend its sponsorship shortly after the news of his PED use was announced.
His website lists only those two companies under his sponsorships.
USA Gymnastics Updates Logo
USA Gymnastics has updated its logo for the federation’s 50th anniversary.
The new logo features a deeper red and blue, a new font and a retooled graphic. The logo was designed by the Indianapolis-based 360 Group, who designed the 2003 logo.
"We felt now is a good time to refresh our mark," said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics.
"The brand mark has been well-received by our community, which made it important to build on the integrity of what already exists. This update creates a somewhat friendlier impression while re-enforcing the boldness of our efforts on behalf of the country."
Getty Continues Partnership
Getty Images will continue their partnership with the International Association of Athletics Federation.
The photography agency will be on hand in Moscow to provide pictures of the 2013 IAAF World Championship.
For the first time, Getty will use images from robotic cameras on the roof of Luzhniki Stadium.
"These (cameras) can fire shots from unique areas where an actual photographer can’t go for health and safety reasons," said Steve Rose, Director of Sport Photography.
"It will offer a completely different perspective and shape on the action."
Getty has sent photographers to every IAAF World Championship.
Olympic Golf Contract
Green Grass sod farms of Brazil will supply the grass for the Rio 2016 Golf Course.
The farm will grow Zeon Zoysia grass for the course. The grass is "an environmentally friendly, drought-tolerant turf," the owner, Marcelo Matte told World Golf.
"This is the first time golf is in the Olympics after 100; I can imagine it will be the most important golf course in the year of 2016. The Olympics in Rio will shine a spotlight on Brazil, Green Grass and Zeon Zoysia."
