Clock Ticks Away to Youth Winter Olympics in Innsbruck
TOP sponsor Omega are helping Innsbruck 2012 countdown to the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games.
The watch manufacturer unveiled the official countdown clock to the YOG on Thursday. Time will tick to the opening ceremony on Jan. 13, 2012. The clock stands at the intersection of Maria Theresien Strasse and Burggraben, one of the most frequented places in Innsbruck.
"Standing four meters high and over two meters wide, the spectacular countdown clock in the heart of Innsbruck is a fantastic way of showing that the first Winter Youth Olympic Games are getting ever closer," said Innsbruck 2012 CEO Peter Bayer.
"The clock also underlines the important role timekeeping will play during the Games and makes every single moment even more tangible for athletes, officials and fans alike. We are proud to have Omega as a strong, reliable and professional partner," he added.
The Youth Olympics in 2012 will be the third time Innsbruck has hosted a Winter Olympics event. The Austrian city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976.
On hand for the unveiling were former ski champions Fritz Strobl and Franz Klammer; Christophe Berthaud, Omega Timing general manager; Peter Mennel, secretary general of the Austrian Olympic Committee; Christine Oppitz-Plörer, the mayor of Innsbruck and Hannes Gschwentner, deputy governor of the Austrian state of Tyrol.
BMW Will Make Special Editions for London 2012
BMW will be introducing special editions of both its 1 Series and 3 Series to celebrate its sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympics.
According to AOL’s autoblog, the editions combine efficiency with sportiness and include additional styling details.
Both cars will get M bodystyling, dark chrome 18-inch alloy wheels and exhaust and dark line rear lights.
To commemorate the Games, the exteriors will have London 2012 badges.
The 1 Series will cost $2,128 more than the ES model on which it is based, while the 3 Series will cost $709 more than its equivalent.
The available colors are Alpine White, Titanium Silver, Bluewater and Black Sapphire.
First 2014 Asian Games Sponsor
Organizers of the 2014 Asian Games secured Chinese sportswear manufacturer 361 Degrees as the Games' first sponsor Thursday.
The sportswear company also sponsored the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, .
The Games will take place Sept. 19 – Oct. 4, 2014 in Incheon, South Korea, the country’s third largest city.
Alltech Sponsors Equestrian Games
Alltech, a manufacturer of animal feed supplements and ingredients, will be the title sponsor of the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy.
On July 8, Laurent Beauvais,chairman of the Basse-Normandie Regional Council and Normandy 2014 Organizing Committee, and Alltech President Pearse Lyons announced Alltech’s more than $14 million commitment to the Games.
"These world championships of equestrian sport epitomize the values that we applaud; passion, excellence and performance. When the eyes of the world tune in to watch the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, we will be there," said Lyons.
"Alltech has a long-standing history of serving the agricultural community in France and we are thrilled to support the event in Normandy and to sharein the pride of this spectacular event," he added.
In 2006, Alltech became the first-ever title sponsor of the FEI World Equestrian Games. The opening ceremony for the Games will be on August 17, 2014 when 900 athletes and 850 horses will convene in Normandy.
Oceania Cup Gains Sponsor
Table Tennis World is now an official sponsor of the LIEBHERR 2011 ITTF-Oceania Cup, a three day tournament from July 20-22 in the South Australian city of Adelaide.
Table Tennis World sells balls, bats, table, flooring and other equipment around Australia and Oceania.
"Not only are they very prominent in the region, they also strive to help the development of the region," said Scott Houston, development officer for the Oceania Table Tennis Federation.
The owner of Table Tennis World, Paul Pinkewich, who represented Australia in nine World Championships, said he supported the cup because of it potential for the region.
"The event is a great plus for the development of table tennis in Oceania … I am happy to provide any support I can to help table tennis grow in the region," said Pinkewich.
