Indications are growing that Lenovo has failed to turn its worldwide Olympic sponsorship into gold. New figures from the Chinese company show that its share of the worldwide market for computers is shrinking. While the company has increased its shipments by more than 500,000 units in the pas year, its market share slips from 7.8 percent to 7.3.

That puts Lenovo in fourth place, behind Acer, Dell and HP.

The company announced 50 layoffs at its worldwide headquarters in the U.S. this week as part of corporate restructuring.

In 2004, Lenovo became the only Chinese company to become a worldwide sponsor for the Beijing Olympics. Later that year the company acquired the PC and laptop computer business of former TOP sponsor IBM.

But while extolling the virtues and benefits of the marketing platform afforded by the Olympics, just over a year ago Lenovo balked at renewing its $65 million sponsorship. A day after the announcement that Lenovo and the IOC were parting ways, Taiwan-based Acer stepped in to take the PC category starting in Jan. 2009 for the Vancouver and London Olympics.

Cadbury Partnership with London Olympics Imminent

British media reports indicate confectionary giant Cadbury is about to become a so-called second-tier sponsor for London 2012. The move would follow months of speculation. The second-tier sponsorship is valued at about $35 million and Cadbury's proposed London 2012 sponsorship could face criticism from health professionals. includes rights only in Great Britain.

The announcement is likely to upset health officials after LOCOG Chairman Sebastian Coe earlier pledged the 2012 Olympics would focus on getting children fitter and more active.

While Cadbury would not comment on the possibility of a London Thirty-seven Canadian Olympians and Paralympians will work part time at RBC while continuing their training. If finalized, the sponsorship would allow Cadbury's to begin marketing in January.

The program allows the athletes to work part time at RBC while continuing to train for the Olympics. Participants will also work to increase awareness and support for amateur sport in Canada.
