BP to Sponsor Team USA Reception

The USOC’s newest sponsor, BP, will sponsor a reception for Team USA at the Supreme Court of the United States, April 21.

Team USA athletes, USOC sponsors and congressional representatives will attend the invitation only event.

BP also will offer free Metrorail passes through its Proud partner BP Street Teams, April 19. The street teams will help fans celebrate Team USA. Adding to the public celebrations, the company will host a public meet-and-greet with Olympic athletes, April 20 at a BP Station.

"We applaud Team USA’s performance in Vancouver and look forward to supporting them in pursuit of their 2012 Olympic dreams in London," Lamar McKay, BP America President Chairman, said.

BP became the energy sponsor for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams shortly after the start of the 2010 Games. The company’s sponsorship was limited during the Games.

The reception is the first major event of the company’s sponsorship.

BP plans to get its employees and their families involved in activities that will increase their exposure as a USOC sponsor ahead of the 2011 Pan American Games and 2012 London Games.

B.C. Pays for The Office Mention

The British Columbia government bought $17.255 million worth of advertising time on NBC for an Olympic-related tourism advertising campaign.

The You Gotta Be Here ads starred Michael J. Fox, Sarah McLachlan and Steve Nash and appeared throughout daily coverage of the Vancouver Games.

B.C. also sponsored a section on NBCOlympics.com, a 20-second B.C. fun facts feature and even paid for mention of the Vancouver Games during the Feb. 11 episode of The Office.

A Nov. 25, 2009 budget document for advertising agency Vizeum Canada listed "program integration in The Office" as an element of the purchase.

The entire budget for the campaign was $38.6 million.

FIFA World Cup Gains Food Sponsor

As the 2010 FIFA World Cup inches closer, FIFA announced it has signed on the last sponsor for the event in South Africa.

International meat supplier Seara, part of theMarfrig Group, will sponsor the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"Sponsorship support is especially pleasing when it comes from such a well-known brand that clearly demonstrates a commitment to football at both domestic and international levels," Sepp Blatter, FIFA president, said.

Through the sponsorship, Marfrig Group brands will use FIFA Official Marks in advertisements and on its products.

Marfrig Group has offices in 13 countries around the world. Its products can be found in 100 countries.

Seara, based in Brazil, also sponsors Brazil’s national team and its football club, Santos.

GE Gears Up for 2012 With New Staff Appointments

TOP Sponsor General Electric has appointed Mark Maguire and Simon Langford to its UK Corporate Communications Team as it prepares for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Maguire will serve as Communications Director for GE UK. He will oversee the company’s corporate image and brand identity, media relations, internal corporate communications and enhancing sponsorship in the UK, such as GE’s sponsorship of London 2012.

TOP Sponsors Report First Quarter Revenues

TOP Sponsor Atos Origin has reported that its revenue for the first quarter is $1.7 billion. Revenues declined -4.9 percent from 2009.

TOP Sponsor GE announced its first-quarter earnings were $2.3 billion, a drop of 18 percent from 2009. Revenues were $36.6 billion with a 5 percent decline from 2009.

GE reports that the revenue decrease is a reflection of GE capital downsizing.
