Torch Relay Heads North
The Sochi Olympic flame travels toIzborsk andPskovon Friday. Both cities are about 456 miles northwest of Moscow. Some 66 torchbearers will participate in these stages of the torch relay including Russian boxing starValery Brudov.
The Sochi Olympic flame arrived inVeliky Novgorod on Thursday. The city is said to be the birthplace of the Russian nation.Some 73,000 residents and visitors of Veliky Novgorod gathered to watch the welcoming ceremony, which took place at the ancient Rurik settlementon the right bank of the Volkhov river.
The line-up of 90 torchbearers who carried the flame throughVeliky Novgorod included chairman and CEO of International Sports Multimedia Raymond Goldsmith.Around the Ringsis speaking with Goldsmith about his experience on Monday.
On Saturday, the torch relay heads to Gatchina. The city is just outside of St. Petersburg and is approximately 436 miles northwest of Moscow. Around 95 torchbearers will carry the flame through Gatchina which was home toRussia's first military airfield. Paralympic track starFedor Trikolich is on the list of torchbearers who will carry the flame through the city.
The Sochi torch relay organizing committee predicts more than 100,000 spectators will gather to watch the relay make its way through St. Petersburg on October 27 and October 28.Around 257 torchbearers, including Russian pairs skaterElena Berezhnaya, track starNatalia Antyukh, and Russian footballerAleksandr Kerzhakov, will carry the flame through the city. St. Petersburg is dubbed the "Venice of the North" as 10 percent of the city is covered inrivers and canals. It is the northernmost city in the world with a population of over one million.

The "Samsung Smart Olympic Games" plan makes the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 the official phone of Sochi 2014, and an upgrade in the Wireless Olympic Works mobile application.
For the first time, all athletes participating in the Olympics will receive a GALAXY Note 3 phone to us, allowing athletes to document their Olympic experience wirelessly.
Samsung has also upgraded its Wireless Olympic Works application for Olympic staff during the games. Staff will provide up to the minute data during the Games with better connectivity, optimizing Games operations.
For the second time a public Wireless Olympic Works application will be available to download on the Androidmarketplace. The public app will deliver real-time news, statistics, schedules, and medal counts for Olympic fans worldwide.
Samsung has also recruited 80 Olympic hopefuls from 20 countries to comprise its GALAXY team. The GALAXY team will share their experiences as they look to qualify for the Olympic Games.
