Sochi 2014 Supervisory Board Praises Russia's Involvement in Sochi 2014 Games

Government House has this week hosted a meeting of the Sochi 2014 Supervisory Board, chaired by Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. The meeting was the third to take place in 2011. During the meeting the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee was praised for preparing and organizing the 6th visit of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Coordination Commission to Sochi as well as for the attention it has paid to the ecological dimensions of preparing the Winter Games and hosting a successful Cultural Olympiad.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, presented the meeting participants with a report. According to the final appraisal by the international experts, progress in preparation for the Games has been met on all levels, whilst the biggest success of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee was noted as its ability to rally the whole Russian nation behind the Games.

Throughout the course of the Supervisory Board meeting, the subject of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad was also discussed. During the Year of Theatre there were more than 800 theatre productions staged. Festivals and presentations were nationwide and involved participants from 63 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. By the end of this year Sochi 2014 cultural events will have reached over one million spectators.
