(ATR) Dmitry Chernyshenko is the new leader of the Volga Group investment company.

The Russian-based company made the announcement on Monday.

Volga Group is owned by Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko. In April, the U.S. Treasury placed sanctions on a number of Russian business and individuals. Included in that list were Timchenko and the Volga Group for being part of "Russian leadership’s inner circle." The move was retaliation for Russia’s invasion of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine.

Chernyshenko, president and CEO of Sochi 2014, said in a statement his success with the Games shows that his hiring was a "responsible" and "ambitious" decision.

Timchenko, the lone shareholder in the Volga Group, praised Chernyshenko for his ability to "very successfully implement complex projects with many participants and resources."
