On Wednesday 30th November, the final whistle blew in Rio de Janeiro to mark full time on the 16th edition of the Soccerex Global Convention. After five days of business, networking, seminars and football the event was declared a ‘huge success’ with attendance exceeding expectations and media coverage extending around the world. 60% of exhibition space for 2012 has already been sold through onsite re-bookings alone as a consequence of this year’s event.
With the post-event survey underway, initial feedback states that over 80% of attendees were pleased or very pleased with their event experience. Business was bustling during the exhibition and intense networking throughout the five days meant that nearly three-quarters of delegates met their business objectives.
Delegates attending the Convention included government officials, federations, rights holders, stadia suppliers, footballers, equipment specialists, technology companies, law representatives and other key industry stakeholders from around the world; over 75% of whom confirmed that they would go to Soccerex events again in the future.
In addition to the successful business and networking that took place, one of the highlights of this year’s event included the Brazilian Legends team giving a football master-class during the football festival. Demonstrating extreme skill and finesse, they defeated the Dutch 9-4 in the final of the legends tournament to lift the trophy for the second year in a row.
There was also the special guest appearance of João Havelange who joined Brazilian football legend Mario Zagallo and 1970 World Cup winner Paulo Cesar Caju on stage as part of the conference programme. There were football legends galore, the World Record for the’ longest continuous keepie-uppies’ was broken on the show floor, all 12 of the Brazilian Host Cities presented updates ahead of the 2014 FIFA World CupTM, Soccerex signed a partnership with the Special Olympics, the first Soccerex session dedicated to Women’s football was brilliantly received, seminar sessions were packed and there was a positive vibe throughout, making this year an unforgettable experience.
