(ATR) The Olympic Council of Asia’s fifth Asian Beach Games hosted in the coastal city of Danang are almost here!
"It (Danang) has a reputation as a peaceful and dynamic destination for tourists from Vietnam and overseas alike, and the people are ready to do their best to make the 5th Asian Beach Games a great success for Da Nang and for Vietnam," Deputy Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee Dang Viet Dung said in a statement.
The OCA partnered with the Vietnamese Government in order to promote a healthy lifestyle for this year’s games.
Smoking and all forms of tobacco advertising and sponsorship have been banned, naming the games a No Smoking event.
More than 1,500 volunteers have been recruited to ensure the games will run smoothly.
Organizers are expecting 3,000 athletes and officials from the OCA's 45 National Olympic Committees to attend.
The 45 nations will have the opportunity to represent their flag and compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals for their country.
20 sports including ju-jitsu, bodybuilding and aquatics will be performed in 172 events at the four temporary venue clusters along the city’s bay.
The venue clusters with the sports played there are as follows:
Cluster 1 (BienDong Park): Beach soccer, beach kabaddi, beach bodybuilding, basketball 3x3, wrestling, sambo, jujitsu, kurash, vovinam, pencak silat, muay, Vietnamese traditional martial art, marathon swimming, water polo and coastal rowing.
Cluster 2 (PhuongTrang Zone): Beach shuttlecock and beach petanque.
Cluster 3 (My KheBeach): Beach handball, beach sepaktakraw and beach volleyball.
Cluster 4 (SonThuy Beach): Beach athletics and beach woodball.
The ABG5 Main Media Center will be located at the Truong Son Tung 5 Hotel with four sub media centers at each venue cluster.
Shuttle buses will run every 30 minutes from the MMC to the venues.
In between the action of the games spectators can enjoy music, activities and side shows.
"The combination of sun, sand and sea, together with a fun and friendly environment, is a winning formula as it offers a thoroughly modern and family-oriented presentation of sport," Chairman of the OCA Media Committee Charles Lo stated.
Fans can view stats of the games, event schedules, and other competition information through the event website.
Daily highlights and sports summaries will be available on the website as well.
Fans can also watch the Opening/Closing Ceremonies and six sports including Soccer and Beach Volleyball live through the Vietnamese TV6 and VTV8 channels.
Following the opening ceremony of the games the 35th OCA General Assembly will convene at the Royal Lotus Hotel to discuss the location of its new headquarters and other topics.
The Asian Beach Games will begin on Sep. 24 and conclude on Oct.3.
