Smart Cities & Sport Summit 2015 announces John Furlong as keynote speaker

Lausanne, Switzerland – June 26, 2015 – The "Smart Cities & Sport Summit", the unique conference organised by the World Union of Olympic Cites, is pleased to announce John Furlong, former CEO of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, as this year’s keynote speaker. This second edition of the conference will take place on October 12-14 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

John Furlong is the leader behind the team that organised and staged the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. From the very beginning of the event, Furlong envisioned that the Games could be a true nation builder, helping to improve the fabric of the city, and also Canada as a whole. Through Furlong’s long-time service to sport he has been honoured with many awards – included the IOC’s Olympic Order and the IPC’s Paralympic Order.

Furlong’s speech will revolve around the power that sport can bring to the cities in terms of securing a smart and sustainable development. Furlong will be addressing questions such as: "how can a sport act as a catalyst to address major issues in your city?", and, "how to fully explore the power of sport for cities of all sizes?"

With the "Smart Cities & Sport Summit", the World Union of Olympic Cities aims to reach out to cities of all sizes from around world to share experience and best practices
